Welcome to our website and to the Towcester Mill Brewery.

About Us

Brewery | Tap Room | Garden | Shop

We are a small independent brewery and tap room with a large garden based in the old Towcester Mill which is set in the heart of Towcester in south Northamptonshire. Our brewery shop is located nearby at the Bell Plantation Garden Centre half a mile up the A5.

Established six years ago and originally located at Whittlebury, our brewery is now based in the old mill in the centre of Towcester. The mill itself is a grade II listed building, which dates back to 1794 and still has a working turbine. The Mill is home to our five brewers barrel brew plant where we produce a number of Towcester Mill core beers as well as a variety of seasonal and one off special ales. These beers are available to drink in our tap room or to buy from our shop in a variety of different packs from a single bottle right up to a firkin of just under 72 pints!

Along with our busy brewery and tap room, we also conduct brewery tours so you can see how we brew the perfect pint that we serve fresh in our tap room.

Why not visit us soon, we look forward to seeing you!

Our tap room opening times are: Mon 5pm – 8pm | Tue to Thurs 5pm – 10.30pm  | Fri 3pm – 11pm | Sat 12 noon – 11pm | Sun 12 noon – 8pm

Our shop is now located at The Bell Plantation Garden Centre on Watling Street, Towcester, NN12 6GX. Tel 01327 437560 or email

Although a mill at Towcester was recorded in the Domesday Book (1086), the oldest existing building is just over two hundred years old. The mill, which was powered by water, was used to grind corn into flour, and to mix animal feed. It is believed to be the only water mill in Northamptonshire with a working turbine.

The original stone building housed two pairs of peak stones for grinding, a bean crusher, an oat clipper, a maize crusher, and the sack hoist. These were powered by the Turbine until lunchtimes when water ran out and the electric motor was switched on. The sharpening stone was also connected by belt drive through the floor of room behind the present day main conference room. The front brick building housed an electric ‘hammer mill’ for producing animal feed pellets.

Today the mill is home to the Towcester Brewing Company Ltd who in 2014 bought commercial brewing back to Towcester for the first time in over 100 years.

Our pub offers a selection of cask ales from our eight traditional hand pumps (no draught lager) mainly sourced from our on site brewery so our ales are fresh and locally produced and in great condition.

Come and relax in our 200 year old bar and listen to the mill race passing underneath why you enjoy a perfect pint of real ale.

As well as cask ale we offer a range of six real ciders, Lyme Bay fruit wines, eight gins including Warner Edwards, 12 Belgian beers and other drinks and snacks you’d expect find in a great pub!

Our very large beer garden offers far reaching views over the Towcester meadow and the Easton Neston estate as well as the mill pond and race that run through it. It’s perfect for both couples and families alike and you’re likely to be entertained by the meadow cows, ducks or other wildlife that frequently visit us on a regular basis.

We could talk for hours about what a great place visitors say Towcester Mill is to visit but we all know that the truth in the pudding is in the eating, so here are genuine comments from people who have visited us.

We could say dynamic, we could say dedicated, however we prefer to brew the beer and let our customers speak for us.
